MEMS
is a volunteer organization depending on individuals donating
their time to help serve the community. We are constantly looking
for new members who are interested in working with patients requiring
emergency care and operating the ambulance. No training is needed
- we will provide all necessary training!
Upon acceptance to MEMS, you will begin as a probationary member.
This is a time to learn about how MEMS operates and how to use
the equipment that we carry on the ambulance. During your time
as a probationary member, you will receive regular training including
CPR and First Aid certification. All training is available FREE
to members. During your probationary period, you will take a skills
test demonstrating your working knowledge of the equipment. Upon
completion of this test, you will be eligible for driver training
and you may be voted off probation and become a full member of
MEMS.
As a member, we request that you donate 6 hours per week. Most
members choose a regular shift that they cover on a weekly basis.
Beyond this shift, you are only asked to attend 75% of monthly
meetings (held on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:30pm)
and 75% of training drills.
There are various levels of membership depending on your level
of commitment. Some of these include our Junior Corps. for members
between 16-18 years of age. Non-riding membership is for individuals
who are not interested in riding on the ambulance but would like
to volunteer their time at other capacities. For more information
on these other types of memberships, contact us.
HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER:
To join MEMS, the first step is to fill
out an application. You can submit your application online
or print it and mail or fax it to us. Upon receipt of your application,
a representative from the membership committee will contact you
to schedule an interview. The interview is a fairly informal meeting
to learn a little more about you. Please bring your drivers license
and any training certificates that you may have. After the interview,
your application will be presented to the general membership at
the next monthly meeting for acceptance. If you have any questions,
please feel free to contact us.
